【国际艺术家驻留项目】莎拉·杰林斯基

莎拉·杰林斯基(Sara Zielinski)是一位来自美国的多媒体艺术家,在2016年12月至2017年1月期间驻留在中间美术馆。在驻留期间,莎拉自由地游走于绘画、装置、刺绣、摄影等媒介,将北京的元素和她关于人际关系的研究结合在一起,进行多元有趣的呈现。

莎拉:我的作品是关于人际关系,以及那些人们可以说但却没有说出的事情。通过多种媒介的使用,来揭示在友谊中、在恋爱关系中、和陌生人的相遇中重要的但是经常没有被提出的动机和感觉。这些作品有意地向想象敞开,暗示可能出现的情景,吸引观众参与作品。每个观众都可以在其中发现他们和作品的新关系。在过去几年,我的系列作品都在以幽默,批判的、热情的方式关注家庭生活和家庭关系。

Sara: My work is about human relationships and the things we say and don’t say. Using a variety of media, I prod the motives and feelings that are often left unsaid but can weigh heavily on friendships, romantic relationships, and encounters with strangers. The works, intentionally open for speculation, have a suggestive quality, hinting at the situations from which they arise and calling on the viewer to with the subjects. With each new viewer, a new relationship is realized, the one between the viewer and the subjects. For the past year, I have been focusing on a series that explores domesticity and familial relationships, fondly, critically, with humor.

我用天真的线条构成作品。省略细节,忽视完美,从而更快、更直接地表达想法。记号笔、墨水或是针刻留下的印记并不能够完全被清除,所以由此导致的“错误”都得以留在画面上,变成作品本身的历史。缺陷背叛了这个过程。我的工作揭示了我对过程和触觉、记录和记忆的迷恋。

I use the naïve quality of my line to complement the content of my work. By omitting details and eschewing perfection, I am able to communicate ideas faster and more directly. Making and revising marks in Sharpie, ink, or dry point doesn’t allow for total erasure. All of my mistakes are left on the page or wall, giving history to the pieces. The imperfections betray the process. My work reveals my obsessions with process and tactility, recording and remembrance.

在这个日益依赖于技术,数字化和虚拟化的世界里,我对这些媒介的社会影响感到困惑。我愿意,拥抱我作为人类不完美的这个现实,反叛这个世界。 我的作品是概念化和手工的; 它是关于交流想法,同时不让观众忘记思想背后的手。

In a world that depends increasingly on the technological, the digital, and the virtual, I am confounded by the social repercussions of these media and am committed to rebelling against that by embracing my reality as human, imperfect. My work is conceptual and handmade; it is about communicating ideas while never letting viewers forget the hand behind the mind.

莎拉·杰林斯基于2011年毕业于纽约巴纳德学院英语文学专业,曾在哥伦比亚大学和马萨诸塞艺术设计学院学习版画。她曾经在格鲁吉亚国会图书馆以及波士顿的Zakim中心和Find & Form举办过个展。

Sara Zielinski graduated from Barnard College in 2011, major in English, Creative Writing who has also studied printmaking at Columbia University and Massachusetts College of Art Design. She had solo exhibition in National Parliamentary Library in Georgia, Zakim Center and Find & Form in Boston.
